Thabrate (Correspondance), 2011 — from Badr for Fadma
[Rabat • Morocco]
The Thabrate project, literally “letter”, is an artistic project inspired by the oral nature of Rif populations, a practice that is limited by distance and illiteracy. In the 1960s and70s, dialogues were prolonged by technical tools for reproducing sound. Families dispersed between Europe and the Maghreb discovered in magnetic cassette technology a way of maintaining spoken exchanges. The artists Badr Hammami and Fadma Kaddouri put into practice conversations that reactivated this immaterial history, through the use of archives and a discussion conducted by cassette, between 2010 and 2011.
